We're doing it on Monday all because well, one: she's fabulous and two: I went to see Always...Patsy Cline last night at the Chanhassen Dinner Theatre and we love listening to good music.
Patsy holds a special place for me. My mom played her album when I was a kid and we'd sing along. Her mom, my grandma Ramona, loved to sing Crazy. She'd sing it with a lot of attitude (like Patsy, she'd always have her bright red lipstick on) and it was cute listening to her sing with her filipina accent. She died a little more than a year ago. I hear that song and always think of her.
It felt full circle last night because I went with my other grandma, Amaryllys. She loves Patsy too. We had such a fantastic time because not only were we enjoying being together, but we were blown away by Monica Heuser's voice (she played Patsy and sang about 25 songs!) and Peggy O'Connell's comedic timing (she play Louise, a Houston housewife and Patsy uber fan). I was laughing out loud and crying (just a little). It's a story of friendship and admiration. At the end, they reminded us that she died at age 30 in a plane crash; makes me wonder if/how country and rock and roll music would be different today if that didn't happen...
Here's Patsy:
That's Crazy written by Willie Nelson!
