Pay It Forward Fund Casino Night is THIS Friday!

Wednesday, February 4, 2009, 02:05 PM CST [General]

Click here or call (763) 520-2802 and get your tickets now!  You don't have much time.  Michelle Morey, co-founder of the Pay It Forward Fund, told Jas and I this afternoon that they're almost sold out!

Let me tell you, it's worth the $75.  This event is Absolutely Fabulous!  Last year was a blast, but this is going to be even better because FM107.1 is representing -- Lori and Julia, Kevyn Burger, Stephanie Hansen, Jason and I will all be there dealing cards and having fun.  It's the 4th Annual Casino Night at the Medina Ballroom.  In addition to the casino games, there's dinner, silent and live auctions, and music by Belladiva.  Registration begins at 5:30, dinner starts at 7:00, and the party goes until midnight!

Michelle and her husband started a fantastic organization!  The Pay It Forward Fund assists women who are struggling financially while being treated for breast and women's cancers (cervical, ovarian, uterine) at the Humphrey Cancers Centers located at North Memorial, Unity, Mercy, & Monticello-Big Lake Hospitals.  The fund helps patients buy groceries, pay their mortgages, heat their homes, keep their lights and water on, and repair their cars so they can drive to chemo.

Check my dealing outift and skills last year :)

    I've been practicing.

    Hope to see you there!

Get Real Girls get real online

Tuesday, February 3, 2009, 09:20 PM CST [General]

You listen to the Get Real Girls getting real on the radio Saturday mornings from 8-10.  But did you know, but they get real online too (beyond their FM107.1 show page)?  I like to check their websites/blogs often to see what they're up to.

In fact, what prompted me to write this now is a new project Colleen Lindstrom started called Keeping Her Cool.  Every week, she chooses something that makes her squirm or pushes her beyond her comfort zone.  She keeps her cool (or tries to) and blogs about it.  Last week (week 3) she made sushi and this week she's learning to play a song on the piano.  You can vote on what you think she should do next; I voted for karaoke.  I love what she's doing and it has challenged me to think about doing things that make me jump out of my comfort bubble.  Check it out here.  Colleen's also a life coach.  Here's a link to Life Celebration Coaching.

Another sweet site is Liv Lane's.  I love to see what she's capturing through her camera lens.  She chooses beauty everyday and honors it by photographing it and writing down her thoughts.  It's called One Year of Beauty.  This is one piece of her Choosing Beauty site; I also like the Beauty Lessons Liv writes, including one about the law of attraction.

Anyway, check them out and show them some love.  Hope you're having a great night!

    Alexis Walsko or Alexis Thompson?

Friday, January 30, 2009, 03:49 PM CST [General]

I saw Walsko yesterday just before she went on with Colleen and the Boys.  We laughed and griped about how some people ask me to tell Allison Kaplan something and they ask her to tell Jason Matheson something.  She said that Chris Reuvers used to get calls (this is before I switched to Jason's show) asking why Alexis stays around on Thursdays after being with Kevyn and then goes on with Colleen and the Boys.  People confuse us with each other all the time.

I'm Thompson.  I'm on with Jason Matheson (weekdays 11-1pm) -- used to be on with Kevyn from 9-11 am (Princess Alexis) and on the Saturday Night Groove.

Walsko is one of our Shop Girls with Allison Kaplan -- Saturday mornings 10-noon and she's on with Colleen and the Boys Thursday afternoons where she shares what's on her radar (fun things to do on the weekend) and what she's up to.

I know it's confusing because we look so much alike :)

Here we are -- this pic was taken about 2 years ago at the Hope Chest's Denim and Diamonds event, so we a little older, but you get the point.  Walsko's on the left.

Not sure if this helps...thought we'd try to clear that up :)

    Have a great weekend!

    Go Red In Feb!

Thursday, January 29, 2009, 10:04 AM CST [General]

The number one killer of women is heart disease.  February is American Heart Month and we're kicking off a campaign at FM107.1 to raise awareness.

I want to tell you about something else Go Red in Feb related to start thinking about now.  It's the Twin Cities Go Red Casting Call at the Mall of America in the rotunda on February 6th from 5-8 pm.  If you or someone you know has a heart-health story, head over to the mall on the 6th for your chance to be a local or national spokesperson for Go Red for Women.  If you can't make it, you can submit your story by making a video and uploading it to YouTube.  Click here for more info.

There's also a Twin Cities Wear Red Day Rally at the Capitol  rotunda from 11-noon.  Of course, bring your radio tuned to FM107.1 so you won't miss the first hour of the Jason Matheson show.

And start getting your red outfit together -- February 6th is National Wear Red Day.

Heart disease is the number one killer in my family.  Because of this, I've made changes in my life -- in my diet and exercise.  It's important to think about about your heart and how it physically functions not just how much love it can hold -- which was what I used to focus on.

New In Town Premiere last night

Tuesday, January 27, 2009, 09:57 AM CST [General]

Organized Crazytown is how I would describe last night at the Mall of America.  There was a red carpet event for New In Town -- Harry Connick Jr, Siobhan Fallon and screenwriter Ken Rance worked the crowd.  There was a fashion show before and the mayor of New Elm and a Princess from there gave them New Ulm (thank you Jaby for catching my typo) gifts and invited everyone to a potluck later this month!  We're talking to their community group organizing it today at noon.

Then the crowd got to meet him up close as he signed posters for them.  I know it's part of promoting his film, but I felt kind of bad for him.  There were flashes constantly going off in his face and screaming fans.  Then after the signing, he introduced the three movie houses.  He apologized that the movie was filmed in Winnepeg and not MN (even though he had nothing to do with that decision).  He was extremely gracious and down-to-earth.  It was great to see Jason doing his thang.  Some of the other reporters were frantically writing down questions and how the stars answered and Jas just talked to them.  I could tell they liked that much better.  Siobhan is Jas' new girlfriend and she said she has a crush on him too!

The movie was really cute.  I have to say I was surprised.  I get protective when they say it's about Minnesotans; I don't want us to look like fools.  And I was leary of the cheesy factor; there was a bit of that, but it was funny and feel good.

The media box was tiny!  I was smashed between two photographers, but I managed to take a few pictures:
