    Why: Sever's Corn Maze and Fall Festival in Shakopee returns in 2008 with a patriotic theme and an extra weekend. This year the team at Sever's Corn Maze has created a true masterpiece, with more corners and curves than ever before. Visitors in 2008 will learn fun facts about the White House as they navigate their way through each twist and turn of this giant maze. At fourteen acres, Sever's Corn Maze is one of the largest and best known mazes in North America. It's huge so if you get tired, take a ride on the new horse-drawn hayride!

    Why: A good Oktoberfest celebration requires a few key ingredients: good beer, lively music, and handmade sausages. Black Forest Inn adds in burlesque dancers and a night devoted to "The Hoff" - David Hasselhoff. Kicking off  with a live alphorn music and a ceremonial keg tapping, each night of the ten day celebration features homemade menu items, lively entertainment, and special German beers.

    What: "Artability" Art Exhibit: Art at the Corner of Life and Mental Illness

    Why: People Incorporated's annual art show, Artability, celebrates the important contributions that people with mental illness make to society by giving talented artists from around the region a chance to showcase their work. Now in its 14th year, Artability features creative work from over 95 artists-including paintings, drawing, sculpture, poetry, photography and music. People Incorporated has 42 programs at 39 sites in the Twin Cities area which promote and secure independence and community integration for people with mental illness and other brain disorders.

Now Klosterman has written a novel, Downtown Owl, from which he'll be reading.

    Where: Macalaster College's Kagin Ballroom 1600 Grand Avenue, St. Paul

    Why: St. Paul's Grand Ave. is the longest stretch of cool shops and restaurants in the Twin Cities. To celebrate it's relative greatness, this year's Taste of Grand celebration has been "restyled" to include a runway show featuring Grand Ave. retailers, food from the avenue's finest restaurants, a cabaret show, and a silent auction. The main event takes place from 7:00-10:30 p.m.

    Why: The work of local poster artists is on display in the 4th annual Poster Offensive show at Frank Stone Gallery. The exhibition is intended to promote democracy and peace through the medium of the poster.
