Generally when you say the word sag, it's not a good thing, unless you're talking about the Screen Actors Guild Awards. In my opinion, this is the best and most exciting use of the word SAG! I absolutely love this award show. It might be my favorite, but I haven't committed, yet.
A couple highlights of last night's broadcast:
Will Arnett's intro (apologies for poor video quality):
Amy Poehler and John Krazinski's presentation of Outstanding Performance by a Female Actor in a Drama Series:
I also particularly appreciated the length of the award show, just over 2 hours. It was the perfect way to spend a Sunday night. I love award show season!!! I can't wait for the Oscars!
At 7:35 p.m. on Wednesday evening, President Obama took the oath of office... again. Chief Justice John G. Roberts, Jr. flubbed his lines at the original swearing in and in an effort to "make it more official" the two staged a do-over.
White House Counsel Greg Craig (editorial comment: Did you see that his name is Greg Craig!) said in a statement, "We believe the oath of office was administered effectively and that the president was sworn in appropriately on Tuesday. But the oath appears in the Constitution itself. And out of abundance of caution, because there was one word out of sequence, Chief Justice Roberts administered the oath a second time."
Note to self, always follow the script... always.
Lost anyone???
I don't know about you, but after the premiere of Lost last night, I am more lost than ever. Anyone have any insights that can keep a girl up to speed? This whole time travel thing is blowing my mind. I am not disappointed though... what about you?
As for tonight...
Don't forget to set your DVR for the usual Office, 30 Rock, Ugly Betty, and Grey's Anatomy. The season premiere of Burn Notice on USA is at 9:00 tonight. The premise: Former spook Michael Westen (Jeffery Donovan), stuck in his hometown of Miami when he's "burned" by the agency, is still trying to find out who ruined his life.
1. Malia Obama and her digital camera. I couldn't help but think this was the cutest thing I'd seen. Of course she'd be taking pictures! This is the most important day of her family's life! All day, I wondered what it must be like to be those gorgeous little girls, and Malia and her camera gave me a good idea. I remember being that age and taking pictures of anything and everything that meant something to me. I bet we'll see those pictures some day in a memoir by her.
2. I remember dancing at my wedding in front of 350 people, that felt like pressure, how about this... and a private serenade by Beyonce... don't you wonder what they're saying to eachother?
Honestly, it seems as though there's nothing to report in Hollywood because all of Hollywood is in Washington DC. Instead I'll remind you to...
SET YOUR DVR!!!!
Tonight is the season premiere of LOST! Also, Lie to Me premieres on Fox at 8pm. The premise: Dr. Cal Lightman (Tim Roth, aka Mr. Orange from Reservoir Dogs) deals with the professional upsides and personal downsides of being a human lie detector.
For what it's worth, here are my notes on the Golden Globes...
Did you notice that J Lo wasn't wearing her wedding ring??? Amid rumors of a potential divorce announcement on the horizon, J Lo started the show, flashing around an obviously bare left hand ring finger, but later was spotted canoodling with husband Marc Anthony. My interest is piqued.
Miley Cyrus, seriously, if you want to play with the big dogs, you have to act like one. This includes keeping your tongue in your mouth when the camera passes you rather than looking directly into it and sticking your tongue out like a 10 year-old. As if once wasn't enough (at the beginning of the show), you did it twice (again over the credits at the end of the show). I hope you have a good manager and publicist that will explain to you all that is wrong with that.
Zac Efron, I am guessing that per Hollywood standards, you are not a good candidate for facial hair. Think about it.
Emma Thompson, it is important for you to know that I adore and honor you.
I thought it was really funny when Colin Farrel sniffled and then made a joke that he had a cold and not "what it used to be" (referring to his former cocaine habit which he is in recovery from), but did not think it was funny when Seth Rogan made a comment about snorting coke with Mickey Rourke. Here's the deal, nobody beats up my brother but me.
On the topic of Mr. Rourke, I was totally pulling for a win. Was so happy he got one! I love a good comeback, and this was well deserved.
Another highlight of the evening was Tracy Morgan's speech which Tina Fey allowed for 30 Rock's win of Best TV Comedy. I think he is a brilliant comic, but more importantly, that is a brilliant cast. I highly recommend this show!
Thank you for bringing your beer on stage Ricky Gervais, and then, for proceeding to be hysterical.
I think the censors are going to need to think about the 8 second pixelating delay. They managed to bleep out the f-word, but couldn't quite distort the picture quickly enough to miss Darron Aronofsky giving Mickey Rourke the finger.
Slumdog Millionaire was the big winner! I think I'm going to have to see that one. Who wants to babysit for me???
I also want to note that as far as red carpet coverage is concerned, I am done with E! There is too too too much awkward conversation and "yucking it up" between the interviewers. Now, I can't imagine how hard their job must be, but come on, I'd like to be just a little entertained.
