Terrifying!!

I want to know what really terrifies you.  I don't mean, like, dying or whatever.  I want to know about things that won't kill or hurt you, or anyone around you.  Such as... Colleen Lindstrom said she really doesn't like the huge wind turbines you see all accross the prairies of the Midwest.

For me, it would be getting sprayed by a skunk (shutters).

A friend of mine visited from out of town, so we decided to go out.  We took the bus over to Dinkytown, because well, it's a party hotspot, right? We figured we'd just call a cab whenever we wanted to head back to my pad. Sounds simple enough.  Well, cabs don't go into dinkytown around bar-close (Why, I have no idea). Sooo... Since we had no vehicle, we had to walk.  I stay about 2 blocks off of 280 on Energy Park Dr, which is RIGHT off the U of M bus transit way between the St. Paul & Minneap campuses.  So we walked up the transit way at about 3am after many failed attempts to corral a cabbie.  The transit way is quite desolate at 3 in the morning.  Luckily, we only had one frightening encounter.  A skunk.  A LIVE skunk.  I'd never seen a LIVE skunk before. I had only passed dead ones left as roadkill.  A docile creature he seemed to be, because he paid us no mind.  But I can't even IMAGINE what would have happened had he attacked (do they attack?) or sprayed on of us...  Yikes!

Those giant windmills freak me out too.  I have no idea why.  I'm also extremely arachnophobic and don't do well with most insects in general.

funny, I had a dream that I owned a wind farm in southern minnesota and I think it would be great.  Poor Colleen has to sit in the booth at the fair with the wind turbine directly across the road from her!!!

Mice.  People always say, "they're more afraid of you than you are of them".  I don't think so!!!!  Long Live Cats!!!

I know you said this wasn't regarding dying but I have a fear of dying either by drowning or fire.  I can't swim so just the fact of not being able to breath and water filling up your lungs scares me.  Once my husband and I were in the pool at a hotel and I don't know if I slipped or what but I was flailing my arms around in the water and gulping for breath.  When I finally got my composure I started screaming at my husband that I was drowning and he was just standing there looking at me like I was crazy.  He just stared at me like I was an alien and said, all you had to do was stand up, the water only comes to your knees.

The thought of being burned alive just seems horrifying.

Dear Z. Most people drown because they panic. I taught my children how to swim at a very early age.

Understand I am not putting anyone down for their fear of water, As water is not our natural element. But in still water like a pool, here is some info to help you get over your fear.

If you take a breath and relax you will find that your natural buoyancy will only allow you to sink straight down to a water level just about eye-brow level. This means you only have to raise yourself about 2-3 inches up to get air.

Once you practice this with someone you trust, you will find that it is almost impossible to drown in still water.

I have taught many people mostly children to overcome this fear.  Of course this is not swimming! But first thing people should learn is how to float.  Many times people are amazed to find me floating on my back and sound asleep.

One cheap a very helpful device I suggest you use to help you learn this is an empty capped gallon jug. the handle is easy to hold and if you relax and hold it close to your chest it is impossible for you to sink unless your trying to climb on it.

Mainly RELAX!  Wink

I will live forever!

I think that if you got too close to Nick Nolte's breath, you might pass out... That seems scary to me, too.

I wasn't afraid of windmills before, but after reading the Capn's comment I'm terrified!
