I'm done with fm 107.1

I'm done with this station.  I tried listening to Lori and Julia today and their thick "Fargo" accents and there inability to pronounce words "vegetenarianism" is no longer charming but annoying.  I will not contribute to the "dumbing down" of America.  It's back to MPR for me.

Wow!  I am very angry about this, too, but too much so to communicate any type of well formed, intelligent thoughts on the subject.

Suffice it to say that I was shocked and saddened and Kevyn was the last person I would have expected to see go.  I hope the people do make enough impact boycotting the station and advertisors to actually show the station that they have made a terrible mistake.

I will be back to post more later. For now, I agree with the original poster.

I have to add that I cannot be completely done with the station.  I LOVE me some Jason and Alexis.  However, before 11am and after 1pm it is MPR for me, too, or back to listening to some good music with the Current.  :)

I was also sad when Cooper Lawrence wasn't renewed, as I always enjoyed listening to her.  I guess this is the way of the world in radio, and I am just not used to this "sudden" disappearance of those we come to love and respect through listening. Remember Van and Cheryl?  These people just disappear, without explanation other than the contract is not being renewed or "we are going in another direction."  I understand it is all business and bucks, but I would think they would take their listeners feelings and concerns into consideration, too, but it is obvious they don't.  I wonder who will be next?

I've posted on another blog, so I won't detailize much here, but I will add this.  Kevyn grounded the station.  Her wit, enthusiasm and general good nature was why I would listen to Ian & Margery most mornings.  I didn't want to forget she was on.  On the other blog, I mentioned that it had become the "Sheletta and Kevyn" show, with Kevyn getting lost in the melee.  Here's a perfect example:  Less than 10 days ago I tried calling the station for nearly 20 minutes to ask them to menton the name of of the Stribe cookbook again, or mention it on Kevyn's website.  She didn't answer the phone forever.  When she finally did, she answered it with "Sherletta".  I was taken back and said "Is this 107.1?"  She anwered "This is Sheletta.  What did you want?"  I'm sorry, but you answer the phone for Kevyn. You were HER producer.  Answer the phone in the professional manner that people expect of you as HER producer.  As I said before, I'm glad Kevyn's gone as I think she can do better.  107.1 has gone way down hill from when I started listening to it, and they have lost me as a consistent listener.  I'll go to another station where I'm there target audience.

Jesse,

Did you complain to management regarding the manner in which the phone was answered?

I tried to call in a few weeks ago and it rang for ages. I ended up having to redial a couple of times before giving up. This was even during a commercial break. When I emailed management, all I received was what seemed to be a generic automated reply thanking me for my email.

Kevyn Burger's voice was the only reason my radio held 107.1 in memory.  I have since replaced with 98.5. It feels better listening to uplifting music, than to the dullness of 107.1's existing radio hosts.

I think they did a big unjustice to the listeners.  The women aged 35- 50 is one of the most influencial groups but now there is no true reporting to topics that make you think.  I use to listen to am1500 but the focus was more on male topics.  I do listen to most of the shows on and off but I doubt I wll be listening any long in the mid afternoon.  I like Ian and Margery because they are real, and I like Kevyn because of the same.  I can get the gossip from anywhere.  You are losing your stations's originality.  I wish Kevyn the best.

Hopefully Colleen and the Boys. That show is all about nothing. The only interesting part is Extreme Maggie. Maybe she should have her own show. At least it would be about something.

Remember the  Satellite Sisters? They were funny intelligent and well planned, yet they also got the ax. Cooper Lawrence was a graduate student and author. I guess she was too smart for fm 107.1.

The Satellite Sisters and Cooper Lawrence were/are both syndicated programs -- which means FM107 bought the rights to broadcast those shows from someone else.

The Satellite Sisters was an ABC production. It started out as a once a week program and then they took it to a Monday through Friday format. ABC, not FM107, cancelled the Satellite Sisters. FM107 wanted to keep the Satellite Sisters, but the program no longer existed. If you were listening AND paying attention at the time, you would know that.

Cooper Lawrence's show was forced to change it's format by it's owners and went from an all talk format to a mostly music with a little talk format. That's a format that doesn't fit with FM107's format. Were you listening to her program during the last month or so that it was on the air? It was obvious that the format had changed. When the contract expired, FM107 didn't renew because it didn't fit their format. It has nothing to do with Cooper's intelligence. (Or lack thereof, in my opinion. To me, she rarely came across as very intelligent on her radio program.)
