I have had a cold for too long and I am wondering if anyone has any cold remedies that work? I used to take airbourne or vitamin supplements but since those have been proven to not work, I am hesitant against spending my money on anything else. Anyone use a certain kind of medicine that they think works better than others? |

I have always been a huge fan of Advil Cold and Sinus. It works magical wonders.
Good luck! |

Buy a Neti Pot. It keeps your sinuses clear, whether from a cold or allergies. |

Nettie pots are a great idea. I have a friend with allergies who uses his regularly. Cut out dairy foods and sugar while trying to recover, these and over-the-counter medicines will increase your healing time (while the medicines may make symptoms less bothersome, it will definitely slow the healing process). I'm curious why you say.. "vitamin supplements but since those have been proven to not work" ?? Where did you see this proof I wonder? Go to a health food store and buy Ascorbic Acid - it is in powder form.. add it to a glass of water, and drink often throughout the day.. tastes just like adding lemon to water. It's a very digestable form of Vitamin C. This will boost your immune system to fight the virus and detox your system. Afterall, a cold itself, is your body detoxing from a virus.. your symptoms, like runny nose, sneezing etc.. are your body actually fighting the virus. Vitamin C will help your system through the process. It has proven to work for me MANY times. :) !! Try it ! Plus, it will help to prevent the next cold virus you run across!! |

Most people can't afford to just take it easy, but that is what I do. Take the cold medicine, drink plenty of fluid and park my butt in the recliner. Curry also seems to work for me. |

Oh.. also a great remedy to open up your sinuses and completely drain them (other than eating or drinking hot spices in a tea form - cayenne, curry, ginger) you can steam yourself.
Make a very hot bowl of water and add drops of either peppermint or eucalyptus essential oils.
Also, you can blend a white potato.. skin and all.. and drink the raw juice. You can't be a wus though :) It is VERY healthy. |

My husband has a tried-and-true rememdy - it's volatile, though - try at your own risk! He buys eight lemons and two limes and juices ALL of them into a big mug, puts a couple of tablespoons of honey in and fills the rest of the mug with boiling water. He drinks it and then his cold's gone in the morning! I've tried it and it is hard to take, but it worked for me, too! Good luck and feel better soon! |
