Cord blood banking

Did anyone bank their babies cord blood?  I have feelings of guilt over this-it's pretty expensive and we don't have an extensive family history of cancer or other diseases.  But will I regret not having it stored if we need it down the line?

Banking cord blood wasn't an option until recently.  My last son was born 12 years ago and it wasn't offered back then.

Knowing that you never know what life will put in front of you, had I been given the chance, I would have done it.  But I come from an different perspective than many young parents because my husband had cancer when our oldest was only 6 months old.  We were told we'd never have more than one child, yet we went on to have 2 other beautiful sons (naturally - no IVF or fertility drugs necessary).  God gave us a challenge & responded with miracles.

How expensive is it?

It's a little over 2 thousand for the initial cost, then you pay a yearly fee for storage-I think it's 125.00 per year which isn't horrible.

It seems kind of like an insurance policy for your child-having worked with kids with disabilities for ten years I definitely want to do what I need to keep mine healthy-but then I also wonder if these companies are preying on our fears with these offers.  I also know you can choose to donate your cord blood which would be used to help sick children now at no cost.

I was all about it at first, then I did some reading up on the subject.  I've chosen not to because not only is it not economically feasable, it is not really worth it at this point because of the limitations of technology.  I'm going to donate the cord blood instead.
