Yaaay!  I'm a huge fan of cloth diapers and fully intend to work those when the time comes.

Do you use daycare?  And if so, are they ok with this?  That would be our only problem I think, the hassle of having to have someone else use cloth diapers too .  I think it's a great idea though.  I thought about this when my daughter was first born but I didn't know anyone who actually did it so I didn't know how easy it would be or how to do it really.

Ollie goes to a pre-school program for a few hours 3 days a week.  That's it in the way of child-care.  I didn't even ask them about trying the cloth diapers, I just assumed that they'd be more comfortable with disposables.  We really use a combination these days.  When we're going to be around the house and for short outings I use the cloth, but for "school" and long outings where diaper changes are required - we go the disposable route.  We have noticed that we are using markedly fewer disposables - which is undoubtedly saving us money.  We started with 3 diapers (just to try it out) and now have 9 cloth diapers that we use - which is more than enough for us and I paid $150 for those.  That's about how much I was spending on disposables in 2 months, so I feel like we'll break even soon.  If it's something you're considering, I'd say that there is a way to make it work with both and it will still benefit the environment and your bank account.

Another benefit (that we didn't really predict) is that he is learning the feeling of being wet and also that his creations go in the toilet (if you catch my drift).  This is making the talk about the potty a little more than just a concept.  Also, we've said bye-bye to diaper rash.

Cloth diapers are all we used and that was almost 17 years ago...we LOVED the earth-friendly covers with Velcro that fit over the diapers. I felt good about not using Pampers, but it was a lot of work! If you can, definitely do a diaper service!!!

I used the clother diapers with Velco "Cover-ups" as well.  I would stronlgy encourage anyone to give it a try...and I bet there's even greater products out there now!

Weren't those Velcro covers the BEST?  I'll bet you're right...there are probably even better AND drier "green" options these days! :)
