Oct. 15 (Bloomberg) -- Vice President **** Cheney experienced ``abnormal'' heart rhythm and plans to undergo a procedure later today at a Washington hospital to restore regular heartbeat, an aide said.
``During a visit with his doctors this morning, it was discovered that the vice president is experiencing a recurrence of atrial fibrillation, an abnormal rhythm involving the upper chambers of the heart,'' press secretary Megan Mitchell said in a statement.
Cheney planned to visit George Washington University Hospital for an ``outpatient procedure to restore his normal rhythm,'' Mitchell said. Cheney, 67, has had four heart attacks, all of them before he became vice president in 2001. He showed no cardiac irregularities in his annual physical checkup July 12.
Cheney canceled a campaign event in Illinois that was scheduled for today.
