Green giving for the holidays & volunteer opportun

Wednesday, November 28, 2007, 03:13 PM CST [General]

I work for nonprofit Goodwill/Easter Seals Minnesota as a marketing communication manager, so I would be remiss if I didn't use this opportunity to share with you all a great new project we have happening: Smart Women Extend Goodwill.

Basically, volunteers for our organization are taking donated, reclaimed wool sweaters, felting them and sewing them into unique hats, mittens and scarves. They're adorable and you can buy them in local shops like Twice the Gift at Gavidae and online through our retail partner, Smart Women Company - smartwomenstore.com. Take a look at my gallery for a photo of one of the sets and see more on the store site or our site, goodwilleasterseals.org.

They're perfect for holiday giving if you're green or to warm yourself up and look cute while doing it! And if you have an interest in volunteering to help make them, there is info on our Web site about that, too. We have "Sew Green" workshops through Dec. to help cut, sew and embellish the items.

    Thanks!
