    Hat Trick!

    Sunday, September 30, 2007, 08:43 PM [General]

So, we went to the fights and a hockey game broke out! Rodney Dangerfield, wasn't it? Well, my younger daughter called my husband on the way home from the game just to tell him that line.

The Wild beat the Blackhawks 5-2 (last goal on the empty net) and five fights broke out. FIVE! And I'm not including Veilleux's semi-started fight at the very, very end. Man, gearing up for Thursday's home opener against each other.

But, what I should really be blogging about is Brent Burns' hat trick. Very sweet. 2 goals in the 2nd period (which is always the most exciting part of the game) and everybody thinking how cool it would be for the hat trick, and then he bloops it in.

Now, I realize this is preseason and really, who knows which team will be there when the regular season begins. I for one am hoping it will be the team that's been playing to win and making it fun for the last 3 games; not the team from last season that couldn't have enough shoot outs (yuk). I'll let you know which one it there Thursday night, and hope that they can keep up this momentum for us. GO WILD!

    Homecoming

    Saturday, September 29, 2007, 08:24 PM [General]

Well, the Freshman just got sent off to Homecoming with a group of friends. WOW.

To start off - of course we didn't try the dress on with a bra before today! So, off to Macy's for a Real Bra Fitting - poor thing, we had her in the TOTALLY wrong size (do I need to mention here that I really don't need to wear a bra at all, so I feel a bit unable to help her in this arena). Beyond that, the lady tells us that her size is really hard to find anywhere and that they don't have any bras with a low enough back to work with the dress.

On to Victoria's Secret (which the Freshman is not excited about going into). . . . they do not have many bras in this size (umm, the girl's ribs measure 26"! Krazy) - but we find a black on that fits!! Yea - get another just so she'll have 2 that fit and whallah, we're done.

Took fun pics of the 4 girls. Ya know what's wild? When the girl that is never dressed girly and you have known since she was 6 has a va-va-voom dress on and looks fabulous! (and is walking in her heels like she's heading out to play shortstop!)

They were all beautiful. And when I told my daughter to behave and be careful; to call me if she needed . . . . she leaned over, winked and said, "I'll practice abstinence." Ahhh, she's my kid alright.

    Go Wild!

    Wednesday, September 26, 2007, 10:19 PM [General]

My 5 year old son & I watched the MN Wild handily defeat the St. Louis Blues at the Xcel today - score, 7-0. FUN!

Let's see, he & I split a cheese pizza with a large Coke & he ate about 1/3 a bag of mini donuts. That was during the 1st 2 periods. For the remainder of the game, he was on a sugar/caffeine RUSH!! But, he did not kick other people's seats & no soda was spilled on us or any of the nearby spectators.

Furthermore, when the game was just starting he said, "Mom, do you know what my favorite part of the hockey game is? When they wrestle." Well, Stephane Veilleux made sure that he would see his favorite part of the game and got 5 for fighting - and a good fight it was. I love that scrappy little guy!

So, Go Wild! Let's hope they can bring what we saw in the 2nd period to the regular season.

    Learning to Say "No."

    Wednesday, September 26, 2007, 12:50 PM [General]

I am not going to volunteer to be a math tutor at my children's elementary school this year. It's not that I don't want to - I am physically pulling my hand away from the volunteer sheet thinking how fun it would be to help 2nd graders catch up to their grade level in math! I have always been burning the proverbial 2 candles at both ends since I was in high school, but this year I am working on keeping myself (which means my family as well) in check.

Last year, I had my first full year as a stay at home mom. As of week 2, I was crazy busy with too much for me and the kids to do. The list included, but was not limited to: piano lessons, ice skating lessons, swimming lessons, gymnastics, dance, soccer, acting, school play, preschool, tutoring, party coordinator, working out. And this only lists the activities, not how many of the 4 children were doing each, and also includes my activities. My 7 year old would look at me as we got into the van after one thing and say, "OK. Where do we have to go now?" It was WAY too much.

This year, I have cut down for us all - but I am still finding myself yearning to do more! When the phone rang this summer with somebody looking for a soccer coach for my son's team, my husband just sighed & handed the phone over to me. Now that the school year has begun, I am starting to plan the spring carnival that I am co-chair of . . . but the kids are only signed up to do about 1/2 of what they were doing last year!

I've had people ask me why I have this need to do so much, but I don't know! I like to have fun and be active - I do also like to hang out around the fireplace with my family and play a game of Killer Bunnies. I am working hard to find a balance - and my husband has quite the opposite philosophy than I, so finding balance also will bring our home more peace.

Please wish me luck on my journey to a relaxed pace. I know that this isn't an earth shattering, life preserving issue - but it is an important one in our home. One that I need to work on each day, with each new volunteer sheet that crosses my doorstep.

    The Legos Are Taking Over

    Saturday, September 22, 2007, 12:13 PM [General]

I think that they are alive. We have had Legos in our house for years. We started out with those really big ones (Duplos?) that chubby toddler hands can maneuver as they learn small motor skills. Then we got the medium sized (do they have a different name?), smaller that the 1st but definitely not something that could be swallowed and choked on.

Now we still have both of those in the house, along with about 10 million regular, standard sized Legos. And I find all of them EVERYWHERE. In the bathroom: on the floor, in the sink, in the tub (not in the toilet yet). Downstairs: in my bed, in the family room, in the laundry room (I may have found some in the washer). Outside: in the driveway, on the deck, in the sandbox.

Now, I do realize that this is a great toy. My kids love to pretend, build and explore with them and will use them for hours on end creating their own worlds together. But, the Legos must be alive because they are taking over the house! I believe that this is the real conspiracy theory - forget all of the political ideas. It's the Legos you need to watch out for.

I'm calling a friend and getting rid of the 2 bigger sized kind next week. Then they can start amassing a new revolution and take over somebody else's house too.
