    My trivia report 12/18

Wednesday, December 19, 2007, 05:01 AM CST [General]

Alright, Tuesday nights a Bumpers in Burnsville, Pop Culture Trivia is where I'm at.  I'm gonna start posting my experiences every week when I get home or the next day if I'm too drunk).

Ok so, this is how the trivia works on tuesday nights ... 4 rounds of 12 questions.  Each round has a theme, round 4 is always a music round(they play a song and you guess the artist) and then a bonus point if you can guess what all the songs have in common.  Each question is 1 point, plus players pick 1 round for double points. 1st place wins $100, 2nd place is usually $25, and 3rd gets you a pitcher of beer.

The themes for tonight were:  famous hair, pranks, snacks ,and the mystery theme sound round(the music round).

Ok, first i'll give some examples of questions from each round, then I'll let you know how I did.

     Round 1:  famous hair.

Q:What actress is credited for the hair style known as "The Rachael" ?         A: Jennifer Aniston

Q: What restaurant currently has commercials with various people sportting thier mascots hair style?   A: Wendy's

    Round 2: pranks

Q:  Who was the host/producer of the show "TV's Bloopers and Practicle Jokes" ?     A: Dick Clark

Q: What tv show, made popular on Comedy Central had puppets making prank phone calls?   A: Crank Yankers

    Round 3: snacks

Q: What brand of pretzel had commercials with Jason Alexander?   A: Rold Gold

Q: What pop culture character said the line "Women, can't live with them ... pass the beer nuts."   A: Norm, from Cheers

Round 4: mystery theme sound round

    they played,

    Weezer - Sweater Song

    Prince - Raspberry Beret

    Golden Earing - Radar Love

The theme was "things you wear"

Alright, I doubled up on the music round)like I usually do).  I got 11 out of 12 on each of the first 3 rounds ... it was looking pretty hopeful for me. Then the music round came, I got the theme of the round, but there were a few country songs I didn't get 9one was Kenny Chesney) and some hippity-hop songs that I just didn't know. I only got 7 right in this round, this was my double round so 14 points, plus one point for guessing the theme makes 15.  So I got 48 points total out of a possible 61.  I did not win anything, but considering the fact that I was playing alone against teams of about 6 people ... I don't feel bad about the loss.  The guy that runs the whole trivia thing told me I missed 3rd place by only 1 point, so I am happy with my trivia performance tonight.

That's it for tonights trivia report, I'm doing these reports because I really don't have anybody else to talk about it with so... yeah.

Once again, I invite any of you to join my team(cause 1 makes a pretty sucky team), if you're in the area (or can handle the drive).  Bumpers in Burnsville from 10 till midnight.

If anybody actually read this, THANK YOU!

    ~John

    Tuesday night trivia

Tuesday, December 18, 2007, 05:59 PM CST [General]

Tuesday is "Pop Culture Trivia" night at my favourite bar (Bumpers in Burnsville).  Free to play with a $100 first prize.  I don't have any friends that can make it to join my team, so I've been playing alone.  I'm playing against teams of 5-8, so I don't feel too bad when they kick my @ss.

If anybody is interested in joining me, it starts at 10 and goes until around midnight every Tuesday.  Everyone has a great time, and it's a very fun environment.

I'm gonna start posting a "trivia report" type blog every wednesday.  Also, I'll probably be posting one on Tuesdays begging for people to join me.

My new goal for life, starting right now, is to make new friends (or at least friendly aquaintences).

Let me know if you're interested.

    Frozen

    Frozen

    Those eyes

    Your fragrant hair

    The way you walk into

The room makes me forget my thoughts

    I'm lost

She's a great girl, my first REAL love.  I will always love her, and I know she will always love me.  It's no longer a romantic love, that time has passed.  She's the first person I call when I have a problem, she knows me better than, well, me.  I know it sounds wierd, but she helped me get over my most recent heartbreak.

God? + Poem by a sad child

Monday, December 17, 2007, 02:54 AM CST [General]

    Black Shoes, Black Hat

    Sun shines with it's emberance,

    Across the azure sky.

Thoughts of what I'll never accomplish,

Has left a tear in my eye.

I call out for God's help,

Though I'm not sure that he's there.

Just as before I'm all alone,

    Hearing voices in the air.

I need something to believe in.

A path to lead my way.

Still, I have not found it,

but I'm sure I will one day.

    ~John

I usually don't write anything that rhymes.  I think I was about 17 when I wrote this.  I don't think I'm depressed anymore, but there are people who still ask me if I am.  It's kinda funny that I just found these poems.  This one especially, It reflects how I've been feeling lately.

I don't really believe in a God, but I won't deny there is one.  I've taken many philosophy and religion classes to learn more about "faith".  I've read the HOLY BIBLE cover to cover a few times, but it doesn't fill me with belief.  I guess my mind is just too logical, I can't believe it without physical proof.

    Envy

Saturday, December 15, 2007, 01:59 AM CST [General]

Did I tell you - I envy the honey bee

    that hovers around your neck,

attracted to the scent of your perfume?

Did I tell you - I envy the flush

    that colours your face,

    when you laugh and smile?

Did I tell you - I envy the air

that inhales cool and exhales warm,

    from your soul?

Did I tell you - I envy the bandage

that has been entrusted to heal,

the paper cut on your finger?

Did I tell you - I envy the words

    on the pages you read,

that dance in the reflection of your eyes?

If I have failed - As I have and will

    my fondest desire is,

that you know how I feel.

    ~John

I found my old poetry book, I think I'm kinda sad now.  Lost, but not forgotten love.  Alone for the holidays.  Oh well, a new year is coming.
