I sure hope this doesn't mean that FM107 is going to stop broadcasting the Satellite Sisters--please read the following letter that I received today when I expressed my displeasure that XM isn't going to be carrying their show any more. Please take a few minutes and email the sisters about what their show means to you--and post your thoughts here on this forum. Hi Patty,
Thanks so much for your message. XM Radio has announced that they will no longer carry our show after September 24th and our terrestrial radio stations will also start to drop us in the coming months. Here's why: Our distributor has decided they will no longer syndicate our daily radio show after November 9th.
We are working hard to create a great home for ourselves on radio and online. Keep checking www.satellitesisters.com for news about our moves.
The most important thing to us is to maintain our connection to you. No doubt you can hear how much fun we have doing the radio show every day, but the real reward is the bond that has been forged with Satellite Sisters all over the world. That's not going to go away.
We will continue to post daily podcasts and to update the website with special audio and video messages. Our free weekly email newsletter Sisterlogue will continue to come out every week so if you do not have a subscription, get on that!
Many of you are asking if you can help. Yes, you can! We are collecting all the messages that come in so we can direct them to partners at XM and other radio, TV and online companies. What is it you love about being part of the Satellite Sisterhood? Your sisters want to hear it!!! Send us an email and we'll send it along to anyone who needs to see it.
We're really grateful that you are out there. Stay connected.
Best, Julie, Liz, Sheila, Monica and Lian Dolan

Hi Sisters-- Seems like I've been emailing a lot lately. I have to say that I have listened to your show since your public radio days. To say that I'm disappointed at FM107 for putting the third hour of your show on at 10 pm central is putting it mildly. I have been recording your show on my XM radio and listen in the evenings after work. Like Monica, I'm a critical care nurse. My job is often very rewarding, but most days it's just plain hard. I'm surrounded by sadness, desperation, and people who are in either emotional or physical pain, yet I'm expected to put on a happy, professional face. Monica knows what this can be like, especially when dealing with staffing issues, coworker issues, and often, end of life issues that aren't easy to face for any of us. I have two kids in college and a 16 year old at home, so I have my feet in several worlds right now, and not sure that I'm liking any of them very much some days. Don't get me wrong, I love my family and my job, but sometimes I just need an escape--and that's what your show brings to my life. Knowing that I can listen to your show and have an instant sense of belonging to something bigger than myself and my issues is invaluable. The "satellite sisterhood" really does exist--I feel like I know each and every one of you as well as I know some of my friends. I have connected with people via your show--read several books that you've recommended, watched shows you've talked about, (Friday Night Lights is already scheduled on my TiVo), and sent money to your causes. Sure, you could pass me on the street and we wouldn't know each other, but you've all touched my heart in one way or another. Julie, your stories about living abroad have entertained me since your days in Thailand. Hearing about how you have supported your husband in his career has helped me to be a better corporate wife. Although I'm still not comfortable in the role--any ideas for a Halloween costume for a company Halloween party?? :) Your international news stories are always intriguing and I very much enjoy the Civility challenge. As the oldest daughter married to an oldest son, I very much appreciate the "little mother" your sisters talk about. Liz, I have a daughter who is studying business (of all things!!) at the Carlson School of Managment at the University of Minnesota. Hearing you talk about your career at Nike and marketing experience has helped me to see a glimpse inside a world that I couldn't even imagine my daughter entering. She's a lot like you, very goal oriented. I no longer worry about her selling her soul to the business world. If you can achieve what you have and still put others first, I have no worries that she can do the same. I have very much enjoyed your Wednesday morning spots on FM107 with Ian and Margery. Especially how you are willing to laugh at your experiences AND at Ian. :) Sheila, all I can say is you crack me up. You are one of the funniest, freshest comedians I have ever heard. You don't let anyone push you around and I admire that more than I can say. The "Cozy Couch" and "Entertaining Sheila" are bright spots in my week. Lab Rats with Monica is always sure to please. Especially when you have to venture outside of your neighborhood. The trip to Ikea had me laughing so hard I almost embarassed myself. At the same time, your love for your daughter shines through, as well as the love for your past students. I really think there's a sitcom that could be in your future on Lifetime TV. Monica, you're the sister I most identify with, and not just because you're a nurse. I tend to be a little quieter in "real life" and choose my words carefully. I enjoy the "Believe it or Not" stories and one of these days I am going to visit Portland based on hearing your stories of Oregon. Not to mention the fact that anyone who can work with pacemakers and actually look at them from a research standpoint has my undying admiration. I have a master's degree in nursing and twenty years of experience as well as several certifications and I STILL have to think about pacemaker sensitivity in terms of a fence. I know this won't mean anything to the other sisters other than to let them know just how smart you are--believe me, Monica is not only people smart, she's book smart, too! Lian, I have enjoyed the stories of your family life and your willingness to share your experiences of being married to a workaholic, yard and home renovations, and yes, even the red sweat pants you wore post-pregnancy. (My sweat pants were pink). My husband was actually in LA the week you did your book reading, and I was SO disappointed that he didn't make it to the bookstore to hear you and purchase an autographed book. I have read many of the things you've written over the years, including the "Uncommon Senses" book and look forward to reading more of your work. Of course, you need to get through seventh grade again first. Twice! I'm sorry this is so long, but as I began to think about how XM could be dropping your show, I realized that as women we so often take each other for granted. I wanted to make sure that you know just how much I do enjoy your show and that I would miss it greatly should you disappear from the airwaves. I'm very hopeful that this won't be the case. Listening to the on-air birthday celebration for Liz today, I was literally crying hearing you all tearing up while wishing Liz a happy birthday and hoping like crazy that your show continues for years to come. Sincerely, Patty S. from Minnesota

I hope this doesn't come to pass. I would be so sad to lose my favorite radio program.

I actually FOUND fm107 because of the Satellite Sisters! I was searching through stations in the car one day and heard laughter.... of course it was Sheila giving everyone the giggles with her "tips to clip". I laughed so hard my eyes were watering. After that, I was hooked, I had never gone out of my way to listen to talk radio show before, but now I was tuning in just to hear what they had to say each day. I know them all by voice, and love them each for their differences and what they bring to each discussion. (I also miss the 3rd hour.) However, I am big fan of Colleen now that she is ala carte. I think there is room for both! |
