To me it's a huge pain the arse. Will that be censored? Let's test it!
What sane person would want to have more than 1 or mayyyybeeee 2 per year?
Did you read the article in the Star Trib about limits being set for garage sales?! It's strange that our city governments need to deal with this issue/non-issue.
I think definitely for most regular, non-retired people, a garage sale is seen as more a hassle than a money-making means. For the others, who have sales weekly ( I know of one in my old neighborhood, who would just open up their garage every weekend and put the signs out), there should probably be limits.. or counseling or something. Find a hobby. Or start making crafts and traveling to craft fairs, then it's really a business. My sister's Ex-Father-In-Law (ha!) used to collect things during the week and say, "oh people would like this!!" very excitedly, and then mark it up and put it out in his garage sale. Crazy, this phenomenon called garage sale. Too bad the retirees can't have more than 2 per year depending on where they live.. that's their tax-free milk money!
On that note, I must go get ready for my garage/yard sale this weekend! Saturday's the day!
Minnetonka is preparing to join the circle of cities that set a limit.
Edina holds homeowners to one per year. Minneapolis, Maplewood and
St. Louis Park allow two per household. Richfield, three. Maple Grove
and Bloomington permit their residents four per year."
After a hotly contested book vote - I decided we should go for
something lighter like some members suggested.. (Lisa_Aka.. here's your
sexy trashy novel!)
It's the first in a series of 12 books by Janet Evanovich about a NJ
gal with a ton of attitude! It'll be a fun read.. my aunt has read the
whole series and passed it on to my other aunts to read! Sure to bring
up lively conversation too. Get started all of you :) and if you fini**** fast, by all means, go onto the next in the series "Two for the
Dough".
Jump to the group page for more on this book, and also to respond about
which date works best for you to meet. The 25th (Sun) or the 26th (Mon).
Suddenly I'm having another topic to blog on. 3 in day - that's a record for me!
Let me jump right in to my tiny rant :) What is UP with people still having hard-sided waterbeds? You'd be surprised (like I have been) how many people are still rockin' the waterbeds! Usually it's older men who come in to our store, see our signs that say 80% off, and all sheets $8 etc. and come rambling in asking about waterbed sheets. Ha. This completely cracks me up. I was so close to asking the last guy, "still rockin' the waterbed huh?, what's the appeal?" "When do you think you'll upgrade to the current century?"
Deep discount sales also bring out the men who don't normally shop for sheets and are confused as to what a "fitted" is and what a "flat" is. I usually bring them over to our display bed to show them the fine points on sheet pieces. And I find it so interesting how scared people are of color. We sold out very quickly in our cream for those who are deathly afraid of picking a color that makes a statement. Next went our sage green sheets because women who were shopping with their husbands in mind thought they could get away with green gingham. Next was the blue flower print, because of course, though there was a flower, at least it was blue for all those macho husbands out there afraid to be made fun of or be made to feel too feminine in their bed, the place where they should feel most like a man! Roar!
Also, I've had quite a few people in who say, well I have to have yellow sheets because my walls are yellow. Or too bad you're out of blue flower sheets, my walls are blue. Sometimes, when I offer the suggestion to them that they can go with a different color sheet, and tie the room together with accessories, like a pillow or duvet or anything really, they will see the endless possibilities. *SIGH* I am so glad that I'm not held to these extrememly uncreative thoughts and apparently rooms! that most of the people I've come into contact with over the past 10 months seem to be held by. Though, I shouldn't be surprised after having dealt with the color-challenged people plenty in my interior design/faux finishing work. Still, I just want to shake them and say, "Live a little! Get out there and choose some colors! Go CrAzY!". And, $8 high-end sheets, are you kidding? I'd never walk out of a store with empty hands at an $8 sale! Fortunately, I've only seen a few people do that this past week. Sometimes just before they walk out I will say (just for fun), "Did you see that all sheets are $8?"
I remember one of my favorite birthdays was when I was turning 10 yrs. old. I had a bunch of friends over for a party and we played games in the basement, one of them was trying to sit on and pop a balloon - don't remember how it went exactly, but whoever popped it must have won a prize. That same year I can picture all of us around the dining room table cutting into the cake and calling out our flavor of ice cream we wanted. That was long before I had to worry about not handling sugar or dairy well.. DAmN it! I kept one of my presents from that birthday for a long time.. it was a white linen covered dog that all my names signed their names on and wrote messages (that's what it was for I guess).. wish I still had it now to remember which kids I was friends with at that point. I should try to find my pictures from that year!
Would be so fun if birthdays when you're an adult could be that fun. Have a bunch of friends over who don't have other adult commitments to keep them from being able to come and once they get there not too embarrassed to play a crazy game that might make them look silly. At least I got balloons this year! :) And a great dinner out with my brother and a friend.. and flowers and 2 cards from my mom (she started giving 2 cards to all of us a while back because she just couldn't force herself to decide between 2 that she was holding in the store!). Anyone up for a crazy game of SomEthiNG ? Anything ? :) I feel like I still have to ring in this big 32 !
I'm not impressed. What was with the awful singing guests last night!? Dolly talked out her entire song instead of really singing it.. and what an awfully written song. It was all message (which I didn't care for) and no melody or anything. It really was more of a preachy poem. Ish. Dolly, just sing! Maybe she's lost the voice she once had so has to 'sing' this way. My dad said after 1 minute of it.. "well, I've had my Dolly fix for quite a while." ha! Right-on! The brothers who sang.. whoever they were.. I kept saying, "Can't either of the other two guys sing?, This guy has no voice.".. They've basically made it thus far because of their semi-good looks and instrumental talent. Ramiele - She had a good voice, but never seemed comfortable on stage. She was too shy to really come out of her shell much, though during her last song on the show, through tears, she seemed the most comfortable that I've seen her. The 3 country/blues past contestants they flashed back to were far from favorites for me. I never liked Bucky, Bo Bice (how did he make it that far?) or Phil Stacey (lacking personality bigtime). Let's recap past 'Idols' that were actually favorites next time! Must have been because it was a country themed night with Dolly and all. Sorry to be negative, but here's hoping for a better Idol next week!
