    George is WHAMtastic

Tuesday, July 8, 2008, 10:21 AM CST [General]

I got the opportunity to go see George Michael last night at the Excel with Lo J. When they first offered me the ticket I was almost done with our show and feeling a bit tired and poopie pants and I almost said no - that I was too tired to go out (after all, 4 days of 12 hours of sleep, lake side tube floating and copious food and drink can make a girl tired after her vacation right?) I got some e-mail from listeners telling me I would regret it if I did not go and they could not have been more right.

The show was AMAZING and while I am tired and hoarse today I can only compare the experience to post Prince 4 years ago at the Target Center. AWESOME. I have always loved George and his sexy swagger. The man can move and I suspect as an 86 high school graduate his songs were anthems for me until at least the early 90's when they started to get a bit too club kid. I did not realize how many songs I loved or knew until they all unfolded before me last night each one better than the next. 2 and a half hours of dance club energy all packed in between the throng of 40 year old women such as myself in our jeans and $100 tank tops sprinkled amongst a liberal gay man contingent. The outfits were the best. Tight t-shirts, floral dress shirts and white pattent leather loafers, jeans so tight they couldnt get the dollar bills at the bar without causing bodilly damage to their artfully stuffed packages. It was all a great big giant Rave and I was glad to be in it.

The set list from the show from Strib Critic Jon Bream is below.

Set one  1. Waiting (Reprise) (played offstage) 2. Fastlove 3. I'm Your Man 4. Father Figure 5. Hard Day 6. Everything She Wants 7. One More Try 8. Different Corner 9. Easier Affair 10. Too Funky 11. Star People

    Intermission

Set two 1. Faith 2. Spinning the Wheel 3. Fantasy 4. Feeling Good 5. Roxanne (the Police) 6. Kissing a Fool 7. Amazing 8. Flawless 9. Outside (he was dressed as a cop) ENCORE 10. First Time Ever I Saw Your Face(the Roberta Flack hit) 11. Careless Whisper 3. Freedom 90

I'm surprised he had to do an intermission.
The only gig I've been to where they took a break halfway through was when I went to see Leonard Cohen who was 10 years older than George Michael is now.

Every other gig I've been to, there's never been an intermission. Even when I saw The Ramones back in '95, Joey only left the stage during 2 songs (about 3 minutes)
Then again they did 35 songs in a little over 70 minutes

I was there last night with three girlfriends (we were six rows behind you and LoJ - Yes, you now get recognized!). George was WHAMtastic! It was a much better show than I expected, and so much fun! I think he needed the intermission to catch his breath. There was also a bit of time between songs. I just think he is an aging icon who needs to take a rest - and of course have a costume change! But he can still move those hips!!
