Song suggestions for my husbands I-pod gift

Thursday, November 20, 2008, 08:10 AM CST [General]

I need your help. My husband is getting an Ipod for Christmas loaded with music that we can sail by. He loves sailing! I will need to get the I pod loaded with all the music between now and Christmas.

Can you halp me select some songs that I should put on his list?

Here is what I can tell you about him and his musical tastes....

He loves regae, Jimmy Buffet and the Grateful Dead. Also loves Los Lobos, Mexican folk music and bands from his youth like the Allman Brothers, The Band etc (he just turned 50). Likes some 80's like Cameo Word Up and Prince (that was his GO to Song- if you know what I mean) Dylan and Rolling Stones. He listens to the Current or XM radio during the day so his taste is eclectic also.

    Have any suggestions for me?

It may be cliche, but how about:
Dock of the Bay - Otis Redding?
Under the Boardwalk - The Drifters
Ride Captain Ride - Blues Image
The Wreck of the Edmund Fitzgerald - Gordon Lightfoot --- just kidding!
    Southern Cross - CSN
    Wooden Ships - CSN
Wheel in the Sky - Journey
    Any Steely Dan

    More recently, try:
    Wayfarer - Hot Water Music
Did I Step On Your Trumpet - Danielson
Beyond Electric Dreams - Bad Religion
Sailor Beware - Clair De Lune
    Saltarello - Dead Can Dance
    Baila Negra - Ecuador Manta
Ocean Breathes Salty - Modest Mouse
Florida - Modest Mouse (oh heck the whole We Were Dead Before the Ship Even Sank album)
    Pixies - Wave of Mutilation
    Carbon - Tori Amos

Wow, that's a lot. These are all songs I think would be conducive to rolling along the waves.
