I have been ruminating on something and I wanted some feedback. I realize I am no spring chicken having been in the workforce now for 25 years - however - I am wondering if we need to teach the young whipper snappers that are coming into the work place some do's and dont's. For instance:
1. Leave your IPOD at home. You cant possibly answer the phone at our business if you cant hear it. It would also be hard to answer a co-workers question or have any communication with you what so ever when you cant hear me.
2. My Space is your space. Please go to your space in your private time. I do not pay you to work on perfecting your profile or to evaluate if your wall paper is truly reflecting your "spiritual" side of your being.
3. Do not bring your homework to work. If you need to get homework done you are welcome to do that during lunch time but please - dont expect me to pay for the enrichment of your mind on company time - I thought I was doing my part by helping you pay off your student loans.
4. Suggestions in the workplace are great. However, there is a time and place for sharing them with your boss and co-workers. Most of your fellow employees dont need to be reminded all day how you in your infinite wisdom could make their lives and their jobs "so much easier" after having been employed by a conmpany for 48 hours.
5. You are only allowed to complain about your chair, the speed of your computer, phone, lack of resources etc after having been employed by someone for at least 5 business days.
6. Texting all day at work requires your thought and energy and dexerity of your fingers. This means you couldnt possibly be expending that same thought, energy, dexerity on the job we are paying you to do. Keep the texting and cell time to your breaks or emergencies.
7. Your mom does not clean our lunchroom. Unless she breaks in she wont be able to do the dishes you have left in the sink. Be a grown up and clean up after yourself.
Have I covered them all. Phew I feel better already.
Am I the only mother out there who when there is a break in the routine gets a little anxious and wierded out?Today is MLK day, which means no school. Not sure why there is no school on Tuesday either other than it makes for a nice long teacher holiday but Ill save that rant for another day. So MLK day, first you have to remember the holidays and schedule an after school program or if the school program is out find some other viable alternative with which your kid can be occupied for the eight hours you are at work. There is the new schedule, the lunch to be made (normally we do school lunch) the pick up routine and time for pick up changes and basically the whole day feels a little off. I noticed three kids at the office today and I know it was because those parents had no childcare, didn’t get their forms in on time or just spaced it all together as a holiday, which we have done also. Keeping track of all the grown up odds and ends is hard enough but you start adding kids schedules into it and people are damn lucky I showed up with my pants on today!

My girlfriends and I run 3 days a week. When its horribly cold like this it is so easy to say oh, not today we will run tommorow and then each day morphs into the next until you have not run for 7 days and the littlest of things make you Crabby and you realize its becuase you have not excercised for a week! I love yoga and yoga is very relaxing but its not the same calorie burning feeling you get from a good run.
I had a great time last night with my friend Jen at Oceanaire. We ate the Stone Cran Claws that are back in season. If you like the Stone Crab Claws and remeber the days of the Twin Cities and Pickled Parrot you have to go there. You get a platter of claws and their awesome sides including creamed corn with peppers, cole slaw and the BEST hashbrowns. I had forgotten how awesome their hashbrowns are. I spoke with the chef and they sautee onions in clarified butter, add some tobasco to that and toss in the potatoe shreds and brown them all in a skillet. They are so crispy, brown, tender, butery and spicy (in a good way - not in the way that makes you cry out for mama). It was an awesome meal.
Check out Citypages.com week for their article on real live super heros in the Twin Cities. Its a riot.
Hate to complain - but I am going to....for a minute... this is the first time I have been able to get in and update my LOL Blog in FOREVER due to the speed. Cant wait until we have a new site which I hear is really coming so stay tuned. Phew - OK enough of that.
Soup.
I love soup and today on the show I got to have Rachel Hutton from Minnesota Monthly on to share local soup faves (see link on the show page) anyone else want to share yummy soup recipes on a cold day?
IDOL IDOL IDOL...
Dare I say it - I REALLY love it. You all know I love to sing and what could be better than a show where people actually get to sing, showcase their talent and get a record contract. I am excited to see how people adding their own musical insturment talents could add texture to the show. My sister is distancing herself from my IDOL worship and pretending she doesnt know me but I ask you... is a show that discoverd Chris Daughtry, Carrie Underwood and Kelly Clarkson so bad?
Lastly...
Today I miss my mom. It sucks when people die and they are just gone and you are left trying to recreate the impact they had on you and making sense of it all.I sometimes just want my mom to tell me its going to be ok, that she loves me, that I am right, that I am special to her every day. Maybe I need to create a mom doll that I can talk to in those hours of need or maybe I can call Sunshine Forever - she's a real great soul.
Ill see you all Friday night at Samiras. Ill be there early as I have a play that evening at the Guthrie but Ill be there.
Its good to be back at the dysfunctional family circus blogosphere.
There is nothing like 7 days away from your family, in a country amongst some very impoverished people, to make you appreciate coming home. I am lucky. Lucky to have a great husband, Lucky to have a great daughter and a great job and frankly, lucky to be born in the United States where I cant help but feel that sometimes the most basic things are a little bit simpler here.
