    the little guy

Monday, October 15, 2007, 10:46 PM CST [General]

My ten month old is still sick.  To be honest, I sort of enjoy his being sick.  I know that sounds horrible, but he is not a cuddler, and when he is sick- he cuddles.  Today he almost fell asleep on my shoulder and it was so nice to have him relaxing with me. His diarrhea has not subsided, I have followed the advice of everyone and tried to keep him hydrated.  I bought some more butt cream and the little guy's butt is still so sensitive. He is playful and giggly as normal except for that unfortunate back end problem.

Wic switched formulas on us (Enfamil to Similac) this last week and it has been in the back of my mind that his could be the origin of the problem.  However, he always has different formula (Target brand etc.) every month because Wic doesn't cover everything.  He has never had the problem before.  I am hoping that it is a tooth (as someone suggested), but who knows... I just want him to be happy and normal again.  I have enough to worry about without him being sick and uncomfortable. The doctor repeated much of what everyone else said, and I have to wait a couple of more days before they say he should be seen. So-poor guy needs to suffer through- hopefully the complex carb diet will help (rice/banana/ etc.)

Since my husband is working tonight, he snuck (ok I brought him down) into my bed.  Why is it that babies and little kids sleep sideways?  I will put him on the pillow and he will have his feet toward the end of the bed, and without fail, his feet will be kicking my back.  How is it that he is so little, and yet takes up so much room?

    Elephant Legs

Monday, October 15, 2007, 06:30 PM CST [General]

My daughter approached me today when I was not really paying attention.  But this one got my attention...

"Mom, you have elephant legs!  I mean you know not the feet, your feet are not the same.  You have big legs like an elephant though.  But you know you are not an elephant."

huh?  fat elephant legs?  Thanks for the wake up call honey. I laughed at her observation and brushed it aside, but of course my own insecurities pop up.  Of course my battle with weight came up in my head as soon as this "elephant" topic came up. Kids sometimes can be so brutally honest.  Do you ever feel trapped?  I guess I have tried in the last 9 months back and forth- lost 40 right after my son was born and then I think I gained it back .  I know in my head that I am not trapped, but today my insecurities were reinforced by the blunt words of a five year old.

    Elephant Legs- signing off

What do you want to be when you grow up?

Monday, October 15, 2007, 09:04 AM CST [General]

What do you want to be when you grow up?

As a mother of imaginative little girls, the topic of career opportunties seems to come up pretty often.  I never really remember being concerned with what I was going to be... but I am sure I was.  The girls thought that garbage-man and mail-man were the coolest jobs possible for awhile (through daily interaction with them).  They used to scream at the top of their lungs: "MOM- GARBAGE TRUCK IS HERE"  Everyone would come running to the window to watch the garbage man do his job.

As their imaginations grew, the topic turned to other things... doctors, fork-lift operator (we needed to stop and watch the guy at Cub once), truck driver, painter, lion feeder (zoo), etc.  Then it turned to the fairytale: princess, unicorn, talking cat, talking house (not sure where my four year old dreamed up this one) etc.

Today my four year old is split: unicorn, princess, painter, mom, and talking house.  Yes she is certain that she can accomplish each and every one of these.  If you ask her what she wants to become- she will rattle off all of these.

Ahh, the days when our possibilities are endless and career searches were entirely within our own minds.

What do you want to be when you grow up?  Do I hear a unicorn?  Princess? Anyone, Anyone?

That song is driving me CRAZY!

Sunday, October 14, 2007, 10:28 PM CST [General]

Who started the "clean up" song?  Barney?

You know the one... "Clean up, Clean up, everybody everywhere.   Clean up, Clean up, everybody do your share."

Whoever came up with that song HATED parents.  Choosing to drive parents nuts... oh if I could get my hands on him.

I am not sure where my girls heard the song, since Barney doesn't get watched at our house that much.  However, this weekend we were cleaning together.  My two year old started to sing this dreaded song.  Now, normally I can withstand the temptation to go bonkers because of a song. But after the 50th verse, I said "sing something else, anything else."  I know that the reason this song is popular is because it works.  It keeps the toddler types in task and constantly reminds them to work.  My two year old was singing this song and every once in awhile saying "laundwee" (as she was putting all the laundry into the laundry room). It did keep her working, but oh how annoying!

Please no one teach my kids "This is the song that never ends."  I beg of you

What songs annoy you to no end?

    mom's birthday party

Sunday, October 14, 2007, 09:37 PM CST [General]

It's all over... all week long I have been holding down the fort and planning for my mom's birthday party.  And now... it's all done.  Boy am I exhausted.

Today after doing a clean up throughout the house with the kids, we went to church, then came home for "nap".  Mind you, I did not get to nap, but in order to keep me sane they needed to nap. The Mister needed to sleep all day so that he could go to work tonight.  You know when things fall into place and it feels so good?  Well it happens only once in awhile, and it did today.  I must confess I am sort of an overplanner.  I had the entire day planned, and for the most part everything worked out.

I made the tiramisu in the afternoon (I made ladyfingers  on Thursday), and everything went as planned.  It is difficult when it is a new recipie, but it was fabulous.  This took about 2 hours just to cook and assemble. Yet, everything went well.

My daughters did a scavenger hunt to find flat pretty leaves to decorate the table.  I was assuming their baskets would be full of crumpled up, broken leaves... but they all were perfect.  Their listening skills are sharpening!

My mom arrived early, but by that time I was fixing the appetizer and we were all ready for them.  The night went well and the kids were good.  The mister left at 7:30PM and then I entertained until 9PM.  Overall a success.... but I don't want to clean the mounds of dishes.

Maybe I will wait until tomorrow.  I have one load done, but I know that it will be at least another two loads of dishes.  Oh I am so tired, but happy that it is over. And to be honest, I think I need to jump my husband when he comes home in the morning- I need some more
